My Oscar Faves!
I’m a bit of an awards show fashion whore, so you know I’ve been glued to the TV since the Oscars red carpet coverage started earlier this afternoon. And I have to say, the stars really brought it this year! Here are a few highlights:
Metallics
I love all things shiny, so I was thrilled to see so many starlets clad in silver and gold. Anne Hathaway looked ravishing, and Jennifer Anniston was a vision in that gold dress! And ZOMG, how beautiful is Tina Fey! From the dress, to the hair to the make-up she was workin’ it, once again proving us funny nerd girls are secretly hot chicks in disguise.

Jewel Tones-
Natalie Portman and Frieda Pinto brought a splash of color to the red carpet, and looked amazing doing it. Meanwhile, Alicia Keys is officially TOO beautiful, so I must call shenanigans. Her pinkish/purple gown looked amazing, the hair was lovely and her make-up matched perfectly. I love how the intensity of the red lips was balanced out with a subtle eye. Perfect!
Poofy Dresses-
I don’t care what anyone says, I think SJP and Miley Cyrus looked awesome in their shiny, belted ball gowns. Miley looked like a princess, and SJP proved why she’s such an icon. At the end of the day, it’s all about taking risks, and these two did it right.
Classic Black
Though my heart belongs to Jennifer Anniston (Viva la Rachel!) I must say Angelina looked like a goddess, as usual. Here’s a woman so beautiful she can show up to the Oscars in a simple black dress and light the red carpet on fire. And love the green earrings. Meanwhile, I know everyone thinks Vanessa Hudgens looked like she was going to the prom, but I think she looked lovely and age appropriate in her black mermaid dress. I also love the simplicity of her soft updo and natural looking make-up. And dude, don’t even get me started on Halle Berry. That kind of beauty should just be illegal.
And can I just say, Jen is totally my hero for keeping it cool in front of Brangelina? If I was presenting at the Oscars just a few feet away from my ex and the woman he left me for, I would have taken my Jimmy Choo’s off and thrown them at someone’s head. Jen however was a class act, maintaining her composure and even smiling at the couple while she was presenting. Rachel Karen Green would be proud!
Hayden Panettiere – Get the Look!
Red lipstick – ur doin’ it right!
Hats off to Hayden’s make-up artist, because this girl looks amazing every time I see her – especially as seen here at recent red carpet event. As soon as I saw this look I knew I had to replicate it, and after a lot of mixing, matching and fail I finally got it right:
Face: Start with a great moisturizer, then apply a creamy foundation like Make-up Forever HD. To get the dewy look, mix in a drop or two of gold based highlighter – my personal fave is Benefit Moon Beam. Finish with a light dusting of pressed or loose powder, but don‘t over do it or you’ll end up with the cakey, I put my make-up on with a putty knife look. Which is not hot.
Eyes: Apply Urban Decay Primer Potion to the entire lid area, followed by an off white shadow like Cover Girl Eye Enhancers in French Vanilla. Then, sweep Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Midnight Cowgirl across your lid, dipping the eyeshadow brush in a little water first to achieve the intense gold color Hayden is sporting. For the crease, you can use pretty much any matte black eyeshadow you like, but apply it lightly so as not to overpower the gold. Using a smudge brush – like Sephora Brand #11 – blend a touch of the black shadow under the eye as well. Next, apply a black, liquid liner to the upper lid, and rim the lower water line with a long wearing black eye pencil. Finish with an exquisite set of false lashes, like Make-up Forever lashes in dense black or three coats of an ultra rich mascara like Cargo Texas Lash.
Cheeks: Use a shimmery beige color like Nars blush in Zen.
Lips: Line lips with Urban Decay 24/7 lipliner in Ozone. It’s clear, so it’ll keep your lipstick in place without changing it’s color. Then sweep on a healthy application of MAC lipstick in Russian Red.
And there ya have it kids! Learn it, know it, live it!
Wednesday Night Beauty Haul
After a long day of work fail, I needed an impromptu trip to the evil den of temptation that is Sephora to calm my nerves. So with accomplices Sarah and Mollena in tow, I proceeded to rip it up in that heezy, and spend WAY more than I had originally planned. I also participated in a three way barrage of profanity and obscene comments that I’m certain scared the staff, but that’s another story for another day.
So, in addition to the Hello Kitty brush set I purchased at the MAC counter, here are the other fabulous items I procured:

* Make Up Forever HD High Definition Foundation - the tall, delicious man working the Stila section told me this foundation “looks great on camera,” so naturally I had to pick some up. Granted, he could have been selling old gym socks and Kathy Lee Gifford CDs for all I cared and I still would have bought them. In any case, expect a full fledged review of this product in the near future.
* Benefit Lip Plump - this primer makes lips look fuller, and I’m all about that! I used this stuff years ago, but it’s been a while so I figured I’d give it another whirl. I was a little annoyed at the price though – last time I bought this it was $16, now it’s $22. Because in today’s dwindling economy, what better way to exacerbate the fail than with massive price increases? YAY!
* Cargo Texas Lash Mascara - This one I’m really excited about. When I heard the term “Texas Lash” I immediately thought of big, thick pageant queen lashes, and that’s exactly what this mascara delivers. Epic win ya’ll!
* Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in Underground - I use the black version of this every day, so I decided to try out a new color. This one is a shimmery taupe that really brings out brown eyes. It’s not something I’ll likely use everyday, but its always nice to have options.
And now, it’s time to watch a little Family Matters on Nick at Night before bed. Goodnight kids!
Face Powder – Ur Doin’ It Wrong.
Um, why does Kellie Pickler look like she got into a fight with a box of cake flour…and lost?
THIS is why we:
A- Moisturize before applying make-up
B- Chose the correct color powder for your face
C- Blend, blend blend!
Behind the Scenes- If U Seek Amy
Hey kids- I just saw this on Brit Brits official blog. The choreography looks awesome and the dancers are super hot! Britney needs to do a workout video a la Darins Dance Grooves where she teaches all the choreography from her vids. I would SO buy that!
