Glitter Sneakers – DIY
I found a gorgeous pair of blinged out Rock and Candy sneaker wedges on Hautelook a few weeks ago and was bummed out to find they had sold out of my size by the time I logged on. They did had a similar, non-blinged out version however, so I decided to pick them up and bling them out myself.
These are the ZIGIny Lulu Jungle sneaker wedges in Crocodile. I picked these because I love the crocodile print as well as the neutral colors, tho truth be told I really hated the orange on the wedge. Since I love gold glitter, I decided to cover up the road-sign orange color with gold glitter, and this is what I got!
I coated all the orange parts in gold and glitter, then painted some of the crocodile print gold to tie it all together. I love these even more then the original blinged out shoes I wanted!
It took me a while to figure out how to cover up all the orange and get the glitter to stay. I own many pairs of glittery shoes so I know they’re notorious for glitter fallout. I personally don’t mind having glitter all over my floor but a lot of my friends feel differently, so I had to find a way to get the glitter to stick.
The answer was simple, and best of all I already had everything I needed in my beauty cabinet. I know it sounds strange, but the nail polish worked perfectly and the glitter hasn’t moved!
How I did it:
1. I laid down two coats of a solid gold polish (I used Ulta Salon Formula Nail Lacquer in High Roller) letting the polish dry for a day or so between coats to avoid streaking when I put the glitter polish over it.
2. I followed with two coats of gold glitter polish (I used Sally Hansen Gem Crush Nail Color in Big Money) again letting the polish dry for a day between coats. I finished with Ulta Salon Nail Top Coat to seal the glitter polish and smooth it out.
3. I then took an eyeliner brush and lightly traced over the crocodile pattern with High Roller. I was careful to use a light hand as I didn’t wanna completely cover up the pattern.
And viola! My wedge sneakers are now glittery, gorgeous and get tons of compliments!
