Drug Store Beauty Raid Strikes Back
Since my last drug store beauty raid, you gorgeous recessionistas have been clamoring for more! And since I practically live at Target anyway, here is your second dose of fabulous, affordable beauty finds:
Revlon Custom Creations Foundation: If you’re an avid fake n’ baker, this is the foundation for you. With five colors to choose from in one bottle, you can match your skin tone perfectly even if you’re between tanning sessions. The coverage is about a medium, and its really breathable so it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a mask. The one downside is they don’t offer many options for those with darker skin tones, which I found disappointing. My skin is about a medium tan, and I had to use their darkest offering, Deep. I do however love the fact that it has SPF 15, which is vital if you like the sun. Or just, you know, go outside on a regular basis.
Price: $15
Maybelline VolumeXLSeduction Lip Plumper: For a drugstore brand, this stuff plumps amazingly well. I applied this over a primer and lipliner, and it still started tingling the second it touched my lips. I love the formula too because it’s sheer, super moisturizing and not sticky.
Price: $8
Revlon Colorstay Clear Lipliner: I’ve been on this clear lipliner kick lately because it offers all the benefits of a liner without altering the color of your lipstick or gloss, so I was excited to find this. I’ve been using Urban Decays clear lip liner – Ozone – for the past few weeks and love it, but this one is just as good, and costs half as much.
Price: $8.99
Rolly LipSmacker: I squeal at the sight of any new LipSmackers product, but this one sent me into a girly fueled frenzy. The package includes two glosses, one sheer and one sparkly – each in their own adorable little roller. What really got me excited though is how those crafty folks over at Bonne Bell managed to be innovative with something as simple as lip gloss. What’s so innovative about it you ask? Unlike other rollers which are made of plastic, this one is made of metal and feels suuuuuper good when it touches your lips. I haven’t stopped gliding this stuff on since I opened the package two hours ago. And don’t even get me started on the scent. Mmmm watermelon…
Price: $5.00

Best Beauty Steals Under $10
With all this recession talk I, like most of you guys am trying to curb my spending. Which is no easy feat considering I’m a spoiled brat. But despite my many trips to Sephora during which I drop well over $100, many of my beauty staples are cheap, but more effective than anything a more expensive brand could offer. Here are a few of my faves:
Pantene Pro-V Shampoos and Conditioners- This is pretty much the only thing I’ll let come near my hair, and that’s really saying something considering I’m pretty much obsessed with my curls. The shampoos get hair clean without stripping away nutrients, while the thick, creamy conditioners drench hair in moisture without plastering it to your head. And because the line caters to every hair type, you’ll find something that works for you whether your strands are straight, curly, dry, color treated etc…
Queen Helene Cholesterol Hot Oil Treatment- Best.Hair Product.Ever. For dry hair, this stuff quite literally works miracles. It’s super easy to use- just heat and leave in for 3 minutes- and at around $2.99 for three tubes it’s a freakin’ steal! I use this once a week, and despite color treatments and daily heat styling my hair is healthy and shiny.
Tip: If your hair is really dry, you can leave the oil on for as long as 20 minutes, just make sure you wrap your hair in a hot towel as the product is heat activated. If your hair is on the oily side, only leave it in for about a minute or two, so you don’t end up lookin’ all greasy.
Aquaphor: I know using a healing ointment doesn’t sound sexy, but when it comes to treating dry skin this stuff is bomb! Winter has been an evil hooker round’ these parts which has wreaked havoc on my poor skin – especially my elbows and feet. Slathering some of this on before bed however, has helped me keep this problem in check. It’s doesn’t come in a pretty bottle, and it doesn’t smell like vanilla or anything, but you won’t find a better moisturizer.
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara- This classic makes lashes look full, it like never clumps, AND costs under $5. Seriously, what more do you need?
Bonnie Bell Lip Smackers- I’m sure most of you haven’t used this since junior high, but I say it’s time we all revisited the monumental win that is the Lip Smacker. I mean really, what’s the point in dropping $12 – 15 on a clear lip gloss at MAC or whatever, when you can get the same thing for about $4? And it smells like fruit and cupcakes. And the packaging is cute. See where I’m going with this?
