Review – CoverFX Skin Care

A few months ago I had the pleasure of attending a Tweet-up hosted by CoverFX Skin Care and my good friends at Beautylish.com. At the event I met Melissa, a rep for this fabulous company who told me all about these amazing products and offered to send me some to try out. And let’s just say it was love at first application – because these products are just fabulous! Check out my complete review below, then visit the CoverFX website to get some of your own.

Check out CoverFX and follow them on Twitter. Don’t forget to stop by Beautylish.com while you’re at it – you’ll be glad you did!

Hair Long, Black and Curly Like a Cuban!

And yes I realize it’s not curly in the photos so quit messaging me about it! I straightened it so my fabulously talented mom could make sure there weren’t any spots of that stubborn red dye left.

black1 black2Don’t get me wrong, I loved the red, but let me warn you guys, it’s a serious commitment. Red fades faster than any other color, which leads to lots of re-touching, which can lead to lots of damage. In my case, my hair was so dry from all the constant touch ups it was hard to even cut. To me the damage isn’t worth it, so I decided to go with somthing really dark that I could just leave alone for a few months while my hair repairs itself.

A few of you on my Twitter and Facebook have asked about the process and which dye I used, so I’ll post a video tomorrow explaining the whole process to those of you who are considering a similar look, so stay tuned!!!

Dry Hair Trials and Tribulations

Much to my dismay, my normally shiny, lustrous locks have been a damn nightmare lately. I don’t know if it’s from over processing or this crazy California weather, but my hair has been so dry that I can literally feel it poking me in the back when I sit down. So severe is my issue, that even my go to treatment, Queen Helen Cholesterol couldn’t help.

So I went on a mission to find some products that would bring my hair back to life without me having to cut it all off. Dear God, it hurts just to type those words! *shudders* And after many hours scouring beauty stores, drug stores and my own refrigerator here’s what I came up with:

Mayonnaise: I’ve heard about this one for ages, but was never desperate enough to try it. So I followed the advice of one of my friends, and slathered the sandwich deliciousness upon my head and let it sit for 20 minutes. After washing it out with some regular old shampoo, my hair felt softer than it ever has. And also, it totally smelled like ASS! Like, a lot. And the smell wouldn’t come out. After four shampoos I realized the softness just wasn’t worth smelling like the condiments bar at Subway.

triplemstrmask_185x225 Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask: I had high expectations for this stuff since I love Neutrogena products so much, but I was pretty disappointed. The rich, lightly scented crème looked promising and turned out to be a pretty decent conditioner, but nothing more. After following the directions exactly, I saw no deep recovery (that’s what she said) at all, even after leaving the mask in for it’s maximum ’penetration’ time of 5 minutes. (Again, that’s what she said.) So I kinda feel like I wasted $7 that I coulda spent on something more useful, like, say $7 worth of sour straws. Mmm, Sour Straws.

Garnier Fructis Haircare Fortifying Deep Conditioner 3 Minute Masque: I think it would have been effective on hair with a moderate amount of damage, but considering how dry mine was it didn’t stand a chance. I do like the consistency and the scent, but I still prefer the Pantene Restoratives treatment I use when my hair is in it’s normal condition.

John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze: I know this isn’t a moisturizing treatment, but dang it, it totally worked! I tried this at the recommendation of one of my subbies, and so far my hair is looking amazing! I’m using the Radiant Red version (it’s offered in blonde, brunette and clear formulas) and not only is my hair shinier, but it’s helping keep my reddish, burgundy color from fading. You have to have patience with this one though, it takes about 3 uses to see results, but once you do the difference is like night and day. This is a pic from my friends birthday party a few nights ago, and check out that shine! me

I’ve used this about 5 times so far, and supposedly it takes 6 -8 uses to see maximum results, so I can’t wait to see how my hair looks and feels next week!

And what have we learned today kids? Hair glaze is the bomb, and mayonnaise only smells good on a sammich.

RIP Michael Jackson

I’m devastated as one of my all time favorite artists passed away earlier today. I have ALWAYS been a fan, and I ALWAYS will be. Thanks for the amazing music MJ, there will NEVER be another like you.

Anna Faris’ Make-up From ‘Waiting’

This is like, the most random tutorial ever, but i was watching this movie last night and realized Anna Faris was wearing the cutest make-up ever. And damn it, I wanted it! So I put together this handy little tutorial for anyone else who shares my opinion.

And yes, I realize this is an old movie. But to that I say…shut up.
